electronica 2008 had
much more to offer than a conventional exhibition. Besides an extensive range
of lectures, a number of other events underscored electronica's
importance. Take a brief tour of the
highlights of electronica 2008:

"The
contribution of the semiconductor industry to climate protection"More
than 250 people attended the CEO Round Table, which is traditionally held on the
first day of the fair. Five prominent CEOs from the semiconductor industry – Rich
Beyer from Freescale Semiconductor, Peter Bauer
from Infineon Technologies, Brian L. Halla from National Semiconductor, Dr.
Rüdiger Müller from Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbH and Carlo Bozotti from STMicroelectronics
– spoke about their companies' contributions to climate protection and
discussed the latest technology and market trends that pertain to energy
efficiency. The video shows excerpts of the panel discussion: CEO Round Table electronica 2008

Some
300 participants took advantage of the lectures at the e-Signage
Forum to gather information about digital signs. The concept of
combining presentations with a concrete product show was a complete success.
Exciting topics included "Integrated system solutions, strategy for
display platforms - Indoor and Outdoor," a presentation that clearly
demonstrated the future of these new types of signs. "New shapes of visual
communication in public spaces" focused on changing cityscapes and related
opportunities. Sharp, for example, premiered its new 108" LCD monitor, and
Esprit Digital premiered a 65" digital outdoor poster. A panel discussion
titled "e-Signage – Potential and
Future Prospects," which was moderated by Prof.
Dr. Blankenbach (Pforzheim University, Display Lab), focused on what the future
will look like. |

electronica-TV, or eTV, electronica's new official exhibition TV network, went
on the air on November 11, 2008.
eTV featured technically founded, highly competent and
independent coverage of all 4 days of the fair, which was broadcast twice
daily. Programming also included exciting interviews and topical reports about
the industry's latest hot topics, trends and technologies. In keeping
with electronica's orientation and international character, all reports
were in English. Switch it on. It's worthwhile: www.electronica-tv.tv |

As in previous years, electronica 2008 was a gathering for highly qualified professionals
and entry-level employees. This year's panel discussion on "When is it
time to go? Arguments in favor of changing job positions! What do
employees want? What can employers do to appear attractive?" was moderated
by Christine Demmer, a freelance correspondent for "Süddeutsche Zeitung",
and was a complete success. semica's stand at the East Entrance had as many as 6 consultants who
conducted more than 400 first-time interviews. A total of 234 college students taking electronic engineering courses
registered for "Junior Day" on Friday. Companies such as EnOcean, Rohde & Schwarz, Texas
Instruments and Epson made brief presentations of job descriptions and
entry-level opportunities and were available to answer the future engineers'
questions. |

"superstudium.de". Participating companies included Freescale, Infineon,
Laird, ODU, Rohde&Schwarz, Spinner, TI, EnOcean, Ultratronik,
STMicroelectronics, which made presentations about engineering careers at the
Forum and provided the young people with specific information about careers in
engineering at the stand. |

| Tour by Parliamentary State Secretary Hintze |

Peter Hintze, Parliamentary
State Secretary for Germany's
Federal Minister for Economics and Technology, toured the fair to get information
about the performance of German electronics companies. He showed particular
interest in the "made in Germany"
joint exhibit, which is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Economics and
Technology. Hintze said, "I
am impressed with the performance and innovative strength of these companies.
This trade fair gives German technology companies an outstanding platform where
they can present new and innovative products and services to the global market.
I am pleased that the Federal Economics Ministry and its joint exhibit from our
program to help 'new, innovative companies participate in international trade
fairs in Germany' has indeed allowed new, technology-oriented companies to
showcase themselves to an international audience at electronica." |
